A retired Ripon College political scientist says next week is probably Bernie Sanders last hope to stay in the Democratic presidential race. Joe Biden’s march to the Democratic presidential nomination quickened its pace Tuesday with dominating victories in Michigan, Missouri and Mississippi. Political scientist Marty Farrell says Biden’s success shows Democratic primary voters were more likely to think the former vice president could defeat president Donald Trump in the general election compared to Sanders. Farrell says if Biden continues to have success in next week’s contest, Wisconsin’s April 7 primary will probably be meaningless, raising questions about whether it should be moved up earlier in the year.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
