Local law enforcement is on heightened alert following last week’s deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol, and an internal FBI memo that armed protests are planned at the U.S. Capitol and all 50 state capitals through at least Inauguration Day. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has mobilized the National Guard to assist capitol police. Fond du lac County Sheriff, Ryan Waldschmidt, says he is aware of the FBI memo. “Madison is only an hour away from here, we’ve been called for mutual aid to respond to Madison before and I certainly hope it doesn’t ramp up to any level of violence,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. ” Waldschmidt says he is not aware of any specific threats locally. The government Center recently received a number of security upgrades. “Cameras, door alarms, secure building, single point of access, deputies in the building.” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul describes reports of planned armed protests at state capitals across the country as an evolving situation and tells WFDL news his office and law enforcement is monitoring the situation very closely. “My recommendation to the public is pay attention to the updates that people are providing. It sounds like there’s an effort in all 50 state capitals to hold armed protests so I would certainly encourage people during that period of time, January 17 to January 20 to stay away from state capitol areas.”
