The Dodge County Sheriff says a preliminary investigation indicates a Beaver Dam man was accidentally shot by another person who was cleaning a gun. Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to a Beaver Dam residence Sunday after receiving a report of a 41 year old man who had been accidentally shot in the chest. “At this point that’s the way it seems is that the person who was handling he gun was likely cleaning it. We’ll make sure the investigation confirms those facts but really what it boils down to is completely accidental from what we’re seeing so far,” Sheriff Dale Schmidt told WFDL news. Schmidt says the victim was flown by helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison where he was treated and released. Schmidt says it’s a reminder about basic firearm safety.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
