Fond du Lac County Highway officials are urging people to drive carefully in highway work zones during the construction season. This is National Work Zone Safety Awareness week. Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke says eliminate distractions, like cell phones. “There’s just too many things going on and too many distractions,” Janke told WFDL news. ” You need to pay attention when you come up on these work zones.” Janke says motorists need to slow down and always expect the unexpected.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
