The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says a series of motorcycle crashes over the weekend is a reminder of the importance of wearing motorcycle helmets. Five people were injured, three seriously, in four motorcycle crashes in Fond du Lac County Saturday and Sunday. In all of the crashes only one person, a nine year old girl, was wearing a helmet, in the very first crash Saturday afternoon. Sherifff’s captain Bill Tadych says two Fond du Lac residents, 47 year old Richard Detert and 37 year old Karen Detert were seriously injured when their motorcycle struck a truck that turned in front of them on a county road Sunday. Neither motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. “We’ve tried to educate the community and its an ongoing thing all over the country that helmets save lives. It may not look as nice, and people don’t want to wear their helmets because its warm out, but they do save lives.”
