The 31st season of the Buttermilk Festival concert series has been announced by the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band. In addition to serving as resident ensemble, the Symphonic Band hosts and produces the free, summer-long Festival, held every summer since 1989 at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park, 801 S. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac. The Symphonic Band will open the season on June 12 with A Tribute to Rock and Roll, under the direction of Associate Conductor Jill Wagner. The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Associate Conductor Yaniv Dinur, returns for its 21st Festival appearance on June 19, followed by the Dorf Kapelle on June 26. The Wisconsin Symphonic Winds makes its first Festival appearance on July 3, and on July 17 the Fond du Lac High School Summer Band will return to share the stage with the newly-formed Fond du Lac Middle School Summer Band. On July 31 the theater troupe Reconstructing Grimm will present The Incredible Adventures of Alvin Tatlock, a fast-paced comedy, using a minimal cast to portray a myriad of colorful characters. Winding up the list of guest performers for 2019 will be the ever-popular Kids from Wisconsin, making their 25th Festival appearance on August 14 in a show titled “The Beat Goes On” – featuring music that has stood the test of time. In addition to the Symphonic Band’s opening concert on June 12, the Band will present its 40th annual Family Night on July 10. Nautical Night is the theme on July 24, and on August 7 the Hartland Community Band will be featured in a joint concert with the Symphonic Band. The season will conclude with “Summer of ’69 – Revisited” on August 21. The Band’s local summer appearances, which are sponsored by the City of Fond du Lac, also include the July 4 Americana Concert, 7:30 p.m. at Lakeside Park preceding the fireworks on the lakefront. A food concession, run by local non-profit organizations, is available at every concert. While all Buttermilk Festival concerts are free of charge, free-will offerings are received to help defray costs. In the event of unsuitable weather, concerts will be moved to the Fond du Lac County fairgrounds.
