6-5-19 state senator opposes raising hunting and fishing license fees

todayJune 5, 2019

A Republican state senator on the Joint Finance committee says now is not the time to increase hunting and fishing license fees.   Senator Tom Tiffany was responding to recent comments by Conservation Congress Chairman Larry Bonde in support of fee hikes.   “The governor did not include it in his budget.  Obviously he did not think it was necessary,”  Tiffany told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  Tiffany says the DNR secretary also has indicated he does not believe the fee increases are necessary.  “In  the confirmation hearing we had in my committee for the (DNR) secretary-designee, Preston Cole, he said it was not necessary to do it, that the Fish and Wildlife account is healthy.”   Tiffany says the Conservation Congress should advocate for more sporting opportunities without raising the costs of hunting and fishing in Wisconsin.
