Radio Plus radio stations Sunny 97.7 FM, AM 1170 WFDL and WTCX FM took home twelve awards at the Wisconsin Broadcaster Association Awards for Excellence Gala over the weekend in Madison. Nick Rusch captured first place awards for Best Sports Coverage and Best Original Digital Content, and an award for Best Sportscast. Rusch won the Best Sportscast award last year as well. Steve Winterhack captured an award in the Best Sports Play By Play category. For the second year in a row Gregg Owens and Keith Heisler received an award in the Best Sports Coverage category for their Game Plan (Green Bay Packers) show on WTCX. WFDL-AM also won an award for Best Signficant Community Impact for a partnership radio show called “Senior Soundwaves” presented by in-home health care company Visiting Angels. WTCX-FM took home an award for Best Humorous Commercial for Schmitt Lumber in Ripon. For the second year in a row news director Greg Stensland won five awards including first place for Best Pandemic-Related Service to the Community and Best Election Coverage, plus two awards for Best Newscast and an award for Best Hard News/Investigative Reporting.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
