The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is reminding businesses to be alert for red flags to avoid becoming the victim of credit card scams. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of tires last summer from PT Tire in Brandon. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Randall says thieves used fake or stolen credit cards to steal about $8,000 of dollars worth of tires. Randall says about 30 days after the purchase was made the credit card company notified the business that the credit card used to make the purchase was not valid. Randall says solving these types of scams can be very difficult. In July thieves stolen nearly $30,000 worth of tires from a Beaver Dam tire business using stolen credit cards.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
