A couple of Fond du Lac streets will be closed for a period of time this week. Howard Litscher Drive at Lakeside Park West will be closed starting Tuesday for a repaving project. Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held this week for a new music stage at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. The ceremony will be held at 5pm Wednesday. The National Exchange Bank Foundation is donating $300,000 for naming rights for the new stage. The city of Fond du Lac is paying $375,000 for construction of the stage. Construction is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in partnership with Alliant Energy will host a drive-thru mobile food pantry at the Fondy Food Pantry on Wednesday, September 4 from 10 am to Noon. The mobile pantry will offer each household a box with prepacked nonperishable foods as well as dairy and other food items for up to about 300 households. A Milwaukee man has been convicted in the fentanyl overdose death of a Fond du Lac County man. Derrise Townsend has pleaded no contest to First Degree Reckless Homicide and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled. Townsend is accused of providing the fentanyl that led to the death of a town of Metomen man in May of 2020. Townsend is also charged with reckless homicide in Milwaukee County.
A Fond du Lac man was critically injured after he was struck by a vehicle. The incident happened about 9pm Friday on West Division Street between Main and Macy Streets. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has confirmed two Wisconsinites have died and another was hospitalized because of West Nile virus (WNV) illness. The first three human cases of West Nile in Wisconsin this year have been reported in residents of Outagamie, Fond du Lac, and Brown counties. A convicted child sex offender from Dodge County is being released from custody. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt told residents at a community notification meeting this week that Garon Leitzke has been granted supervised released and will be living at a residence on Highway 49 in Brownsville.
