A former St. Mary’s Springs cross country coach has been recognized for the program’s success during his leadership.  Bob Baker was inducted  into the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame this month.  Baker became head coach in 1990 and the girls’ team won six state titles over the next eight years and two runner-up finishes in 1994 and 1999. The boys cross country team won two conference championships during that time.

Wine Around the World, a benefit presented by Fond du Lac Morning Rotary, will take place Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Holiday Inn’s Winnebago Conference Center, 625 W. Former UW Fond du Lac Dean John Short has landed a job on the east coast.  Short has been hired as the new president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  Short will start his new job April 1.    His salary will be $170,000.  Short had applied but was not selected for the new UW Colleges northeastern regional dean position.  A new administrative model groups the UW colleges into four regions.

OCONTO, Wis. (AP) — A woman is charged in Oconto County with dragging a dog behind her car, killing the animal.  Twenty-eight-year-old Jordan McDonald is charged with a felony for mistreating the dog, causing its death and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.  The criminal complaint says McDonald got into an argument Sunday night and left a residence with the dog tied to her vehicle. (AP) — It could be another tough year for Wisconsin's dairy farmers because milk prices remain low.  Wisconsin Dairy Business Association executive director Tim Trotter says the industry is definitely in a "soft market" right now. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrat Russ Feingold has raised another $2.7 million in Wisconsin's highly watched U.S. Senate race against incumbent Republican Sen. Ron Johnson.  Feingold reported Thursday that he raised that much in the last three months of 2015, besting the previous quarter by $300,000. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A bill allowing people with concealed weapon permits to carry guns on school grounds is likely going nowhere in the Wisconsin Assembly. Senate President Mary Lazich and Representatives Robert Brooks and Jesse Kremer began circulating the bill for co-sponsors on Wednesday. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said Thursday it's unlikely the bill will get a floor vote.
