You wouldn’t know it the way the winter started…but snowfall totals in parts of  Wisconsin ended the year pretty close to normal.  National Weather Service meteorologist Justin Schultz  told WFDL news that ten inches of snow and even more than a foot  in some places last week helped bring totals closer to average. The Fond du Lac School District will again be offering a half-day, 4-year-old-kindergarten (4K) experience for Fall 2016. Children who will be 4 years old on or by September 1, 2016, are eligible to attend.  Currently there are classrooms at the following District elementary schools: Chegwin, Pier, Riverside, Rosenow, and Waters. 1-2-16 area law enforcement hope to close out holiday weekend on safe note

Area law enforcement is out in force for the long New Year’s holiday weekend including the Packer-Viking game Sunday night.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says  the message all weekend long is don’t drink and drive.  "We have extra deputies working. The OWI Task Force is out there,"  Olig told WFDL news. There were 12 traffic fatalities on Fond du Lac County roads in 2015.

The American Red Cross is helping two Oshkosh residents with emergency financial assistance after a fire Thursday.  Nobody was injured in the fire in the 1700 block of Beech Street.  Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers met with the occupants to assess their needs after the fire.  Financial assistance will be provided to meet basic emergency needs at this time.   Alternative housing arrangement have already been made. 1-2-16 fdl humane society reaches fundraising goal

The Fond du Lac Humane Society has reached its capital campaign goal that will allow for an expansion of the animal shelter.   Shelter manager Renee Webb says $600,000 has been raised to more than double the size of the facility.  Webb says the expansion will provide much needed room for an increasing number of cats and dogs and to be able to isolate animals that are sick.

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) — The mayor of a northern Wisconsin city is apologizing for his Facebook comments calling President Barack Obama a Muslim.  A letter from Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen appears in the Superior Telegram on Friday.
