7-12-14 fdl man injured in northern wi boating accident

OWN OF BARNES, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin man is hospitalized after a boating accident on a Bayfield County lake. Authorities say 58-year-old Thomas Wincek of Fond du Lac was injured in the accident yesterday on Upper Eau Claire Lake in the Town of Barnes. Authorities say Wincek lost control of the boat and was ejected, suffering severe lacerations from the propeller.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Governor Scott Walker has appointed a former Milwaukee judge to the state Governor Accountability Board. John Franke  replaces Michael Brenna, whose six-year term expired in May. Franke will serve on the board until May 1, 2020.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Newly released records show a longtime aide to Governor Scott Walker helped interview the two finalists for the job at the state public defender's office she landed. Records related to the hiring of Cindy Archer were released today. The Wisconsin State Journal reports that during the interview process State Public Defender Kelli Thompson determined Archer was the best person for the IT manager job.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin State Patrol spent $5.7 million to protect Governor Scott Walker, first lady Tonette Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch from 2011 through 2013. The governor's office released spending records today for the patrol's Dignitary Protection Unit. The unit spent more than $1.2 million in 2009 and 2010 to protect Governor Jim Doyle.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who dumped a puppy at a truck stop. An employee at Planeview Truck Stop found the dog behind a trash bin yesterday morning. Police say the puppy has a broken pelvis and will need surgery.
