The local unemployment rate was down in the latest reporting period. The Dodge County unemployment rate dipped a tenth of a percent to 2.4 percent in November. The Fond du Lac County rate fell three-tenths of a percent to 2.3 percent. In the city of Fond du Lac the unemployment rate in November was 2.7 percent, down from three percent in October.
The Fond du Lac Public Library’s east-side branch closed Sunday, Dec. 31, but it will reopen again soon. The Allen J. Buechel Branch, found in the Festival Foods plaza, will move from its current space on the far northwest corner of the plaza to a new storefront closer to the entrance of the grocery store. A Janesville man is in custody following a high speed chase in Dodge county. Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a Fond du Lac County home. The fire was reported shortly after 12:30 am Saturday at the Vista Christian Retreat at W698 Airport Road near Campbellsport. When firefighters arrived seven occupants had safely escaped the burning structure. The fire started near a wood burning chimney and fire damage was contained to that area. There was smoke damage throughout the house.
