A North Fond du lac woman has been convicted of social security fraud.  According to court documents 56 year old Marianne Truitt pleaded no contest tn federal court to embezzlement.  Investigators say she collected more than $248,000 in benefits for 15 years after her mother died in 1995.  Investigators say Truitt initially thought she was entitled to the benefits, based on what her mother had told her, but by 2000, […]

11-3-15 waupun correctional officer beaten

Sources inside the Waupun Correctional Institution say a correctional officer was severely beaten by an inmate.  The incident was reported Friday afternoon during second shift.  Sources tell WFDL news the female officer was dragged into a secluded area and physically assaulted.  She was transported to the hospital, but the extent of her injuries is unknown.  A DOC spokesman says the victim "will be fine."  The inmate was working as a […]

11-3-15 new fdl county election equipment scheduled to arrive tuesday

New election equipment for Fond du Lac County is arriving this week.  County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says the equipment is scheduled to arrive Tuesday afternoon.  Freiberg says Fond du Lac is the first county in the state to get the new wireless equipment.  "One nice thing about it, it is one election machine, capable for our handicap voters,"  Freiberg said.   Freiberg says for the most part voters won’t notice […]

11-3-15 fdl coats for kids drive extended

The sign-up deadline for the Fond du Lac Salvation Army Coats for Kids campaign is being extended.  Salvation Army captain Telinda Wilson says people who didn’t meet last Monday’s deadline, have until this Thursday to sign up.  "The only last sign-up will be Thursday from 2pm to 5pm at our building,"  Wilson said.   Wilson says once again the Fond du Lac community has stepped up to donate winter coats.

11-3-15 fdl man convicted of setting fire to his home

A Fond du Lac man has been convicted of setting fire to his home.   Twenty nine year old Colin Habram pleaded no contest to arson and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 30th.  Habram was accused of setting  fire to a residence at 410 Ellis Street April 14th to collect insurance money to buy heroin.

WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — A West Bend couple woke to a frightening surprise over the weekend. Washington County sheriff's officials say they found an intoxicated intruder sleeping on their couch.
