10-29-15 roofing contractor from fdl gets jail

A Fond du Lac roofing contractor convicted of ripping off a disabled veteran will spend some time in jail.  Forty year old Daniel Steiner was convicted in Outagamie County of theft by contractor.  Judge Nancy Krueger placed Steiner on five years probation with eight months in jail.  The judge also ordered that Steiner pay $15,000 in restitution including more than $11,000 to a disabled veteran and his wife.

10-29-15 heroin legislation

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Senate's judiciary committee has signed off on a bill that would require police who find an opiate prescription at an overdose scene to enter it into a statewide database. The committee approved the proposal on a 5-0 vote Wednesday. The bill is part of a package of legislation from Representative John Nygren designed to combat prescription drug abuse leading to heroin habits.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans have nominated Wisconsin's Paul Ryan to become the chamber's next speaker.  GOP lawmakers hope Ryan will lead them out of weeks of disarray and point them toward accomplishments they can highlight in next year's elections.  The 45-year-old Ryan was his party's 2012 vice presidential nominee and is considered a telegenic spokesman for conservative priorities.  Ryan won on a secret ballot of the House's 247 Republicans. (AP) — A bill that would legalize blaze pink hunting gear has cleared its first legislative hurdle.  The Assembly's natural resources committee approved the measure on a 14-1 vote Wednesday.
