4-24-15 bird flu in barron county

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The deadly bird flu virus has been detected in a 90,000 turkey flock in Barron County. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says that is the sixth report of bird flu in the state in 10 days. Nearly 1.3 million birds are affected.

4-24-15 two republican lawmakers want legislature to do away with perk

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A pair of Republican lawmakers wants to do away with a perk for Wisconsin state senators and representatives. They circulated a bill this week that would no longer allow state lawmakers to accumulate unused sick leave, which can then be converted to credits to pay for health insurance upon retirement. The bill is sponsored by Senator Rob Cowles of Allouez and Representative David Steffen of Howard.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Visiting Minnesota, likely Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker is discounting the idea that Wisconsin's economy has performed worse on his watch than its Democratic-led neighbor. Walker maintains today that Wisconsin made gains since he took office and that the comparison to Minnesota needs extra context. Walker offered his assessment after following a closed meeting with Minnesota House and Senate Republicans in St. Paul.

4-24-15 grand jury indicts wi man for trying to join terrorist group

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal grand jury in Madison has formally indicted a Wisconsin man accused of attempting to join the Islamic State group. Prosecutors said the grand jury returned the indictment accusing Joshua Van Haften with trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization on Thursday. Van Haften is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court in Madison on Friday morning.
