Marinette County authorities have identified a man they think was killed by a bank robbery suspect. Sheriff Jerry Sauve says in a statement that investigators believe 59-year-old Thomas C. MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 27-year-old Milwaukee man is charged with attempted homicide after authorities say he shot at police investigating an apparent drug deal.  Jerimy Whitelaw also is charged with being a  felon in possession of a firearm.   Whitelaw was shot twice in the abdomen during an exchange of gunfire with one of the officers early Thursday.  Two officers were on patrol when they saw two people conducting an apparent […]

A new AAA study finds that driver distraction is a bigger factor in teen crashes than previously thought. Unemployment is up in most major Wisconsin cities and counties between January and February.  The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that preliminary unemployment rates increased in 20 of the 32 largest cities and in 52 of 72 counties. The department says it is not unusual to see an increase in the local unemployment rates in the winter months because the numbers are not adjusted for seasonal variances.  The […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross says he'll quit if he can't convince legislators to reduce a $300 million cut that Governor Scott Walker wants to impose on campuses. Cross told faculty and students at UW-Milwaukee today that he'll resign if he can't win substantial reductions in the cut and protect faculty tenure and academic freedom.

(AP) — A federal appeals court says that since Wisconsin does not plan to enforce a photo identification requirement for the April 7th election, it does not need to consider extending a judicial block to the law. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday declared that a request from the American Civil Liberties Union for the law to be stayed was moot.
