The latest American Community Survey, which focused on family homes with children under the age of 18, found four out of 10 single-mother households in the state were living in poverty last year. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The latest jobs numbers showing how well Wisconsin is doing creating jobs compared with other states are set to be released. The report coming today from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will show private-sector job creation for the state and nation for the 12-month period ending in March. In the last report released in June, Wisconsin ranked 37th in private-sector job growth.
A former Waupun resident is going to prison for smuggling heroin into the Fond du Lac County Jail. Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm sentenced Bradley Verfurth to a year in prison and two years extended supervision. That's consecutive to a prison sentence he is already serving. Verfuth had earlier pleaded no contest to a charge of possession of narcotic drugs.
A Campbellsport woman will spend time behind bars after being convicted of repeat drunken driving. A Fond du Lac jury found Kathryn Burgett guilty of owi 4th offense. Judge Peter Grimm placed Burgett on probation for two years with 10 months in the county jail. Burgett was also ordered to pay $3000 in fines plus court costs.
Three suspects in a car vandalism spree have made their initial Fond du lac court appearances. Twenty year old Zacharias Manthey, 20 year old Tony Sharratt and 26 year old Traven Koenigs all of Fond du lac are charged with criminal damage to property. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month upheld U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb's June ruling that the ban violated gay couples' equal protection rights.
