8-19-14 vehicle registration fee

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — Some Wisconsin communities are considering the addition of a vehicle registration fee to offset road repair and maintenance costs. The fee, known as a wheel tax, would help local governments raise money for transportation-related projects. The tax was recently proposed in Chippewa County by the county administrator. If adopted, Chippewa County could use the money to clear snow off of roads and make repairs.

RACINE, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says human waste has spilled on a highway in Racine County. The spill caused traffic delays Sunday afternoon for about three hours on Interstate 94 eastbound. The department says a "liquid non-hazardous substance" spilled across all lanes. Another store in the Fond du Lac Forest Mall is closing.  Sears informed the state Thursday it's closing the store and its auto center on North Peters Avenue. by Sunday, November 2nd.   The closings will leave 42 out of work.  A company official said the closings are prompted by "a change in business circumstances."  J.C.
