An Eden man accused of trying to take a deputy’s gun following a short foot chase is in custody.  Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says 22 year  old Colton Obrien of Eden turned himself in Thursday afternoon.  Olig says the incident occurred early last Saturday morning when a deputy responding to a noise complaint on Elmore Drive in the town of Ashford approached three males who tried to run away.  Olig says the deputy caught up […]

7-11-14 alert resident keeps dryer fire from spreading

On July 10, 2014, at 12:56 PM the Fond du Lac Fire Department was dispatched to a reported dryer fire at 565 Marshall Avenue.  Upon arrival, fire crews encountered smoke in the structure.  The residents informed them that the dryer was in the basement; crews entered and extinguished the fire rapidly.  Prior to leaving the structure the resident moved the dryer to the center of the room and tried to […]

7-11-14 boy dies after being trapped in grain bin

LANCASTER, Wis. (AP) — Authorities in southwestern Wisconsin say a 9-year-old boy has died after becoming trapped in a grain bin on his family's farm. The Grant County sheriff's office says crews were sent to the farm outside Lancaster this morning. WKOW-TV reports the boy was helping other family members try to fix an auger in the grain bin when he became trapped.

7-11-14 body of missing fisherman recovered

TOWN OF WINNECONNE, Wis. (AP) — The body of a missing fisherman has been recovered from a lake in Winnebago County.  The body of 52-year-old Roger Inderdahl was found near the east shore of Lake Winneconne Wednesday night. The Weyawega  man had been missing since Monday when he went fishing. His empty boat was later found running in circles on the lake.

7-11-14 same sex marriage

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin has appealed a federal judge's ruling from last month striking down the state's ban on same-sex marriages. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen filed the appeal today. The judge ruled on June 6th that the ban was a violation of gay couples' equal protection and due process rights. More than 500 gay couples got married in the state before the judge put her ruling on hold.

Van Hollen says the state elections board does not have to turn over its investigative records to auditors.  Van Hollen said in a Thursday legal opinion that the Government Accountability Board does not have to provide investigative records to the Legislative Audit Bureau.
