7-3-14 wi governor-investigation

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal judge has given prosecutors, a conservative group and two unnamed parties more time to review what documents could be unsealed in a secret investigation into whether Governor Scott Walker's campaign and right-leaning organizations violated campaign finance law. On Tuesday, the parties involved filed a joint motion asking to extend the deadline to July 17th. The judge granted the motion this afternoon.

Traffic is expected to pick up Thursday afternoon as residents leave home for the long Fourth of July holiday weekend.   A Triple A survey projects about a two percent increase in holiday travel compared to last year.  AAA spokesperson Pam Moen says the majority of travelers, more than eight in 10 will travel by automobile, the highest level since 2007.   On the downside, Moen says travelers will likely pay the highest gas […]

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force on land and on the water during the 4th of July holiday weekend.   Sheriff’s  Captain Rick Olig says peak travel times are expected to be Thursday afternoon and evening and again Sunday afternoon and evening.  Olig says  the department’s boat patrol will also be on Lake Winnebago.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — President Barack Obama is stepping up pressure on states that have refused to expand Medicaid eligibility.  The White House Council of Economic Advisers has released a report saying expansion in Wisconsin would mean health coverage for an additional 120,000 people in 2016. The report says expansion would lead to 11,200 new jobs by 2017 and result in nearly $2.6 billion in additional federal spending in Wisconsin. […]

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin man's boast about selling high-quality heroin has led to a homicide charge in a fatal overdose.   Twenty five year-old Patrick Schreck, of Oshkosh, was charged June 16 with first-degree reckless homicide in the 2012 death of 44-year-old Stephen Hidde, of Appleton.  A criminal complaint says Schreck was charged after boasting to another inmate at the Winnebago County Jail that he sold the best heroin […]

A Waupun man accused of stealing a vehicle to drive to Milwaukee to buy heroin has  been charged.  Twenty one year old Joshua Gierach, is charged with burglary, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, misdemeanor theft and bail-jumping.  According to a criminal complaint, Gierach told Waupun police he used heroin before allegedly breaking into a State Street home and stealing jewelry and a car and drove to  Milwaukee to buy more […]
