1-3-23 wisconsin lottery tax credit

Wisconsin homeowners received a holiday gift from the Wisconsin Lottery.   The estimated $213 average credit, while slightly lower than last year's average credit of  $230, is higher than the 2020 credit of $160 or the 2019 credit of $184.   Wisconsin Department of Revenue secretary Peter Barca says this year's credit  is  "due to another very healthy year in the Wisconsin Lottery."    Overall, the Lottery Credit has over $319.8 million available for distribution […]

1-3-23 governor evers accepts applicants for dodge county district attorney

Governor Tony Evers is seeking applicants for Dodge County District Attorney.  The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by District Attorney Kurt Klomberg’s resignation, effective January 13.   The new district attorney will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2025.   Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 13, 2023.  The application is available on the “Apply to Serve” page of Gov. Evers’ website at: www.evers.wi.gov.

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Birders from as far away as Wisconsin flocked to central Kentucky last week in the hopes of seeing a rare pink-footed goose. 1-3-23 shooting at racine bar leaves two dead including owner

RACINE, Wis. (AP) — Police in Racine are investigating a New Year’s shooting in a bar that left two people dead, including the owner. Officers encountered a chaotic scene when they arrived at Rerun’s Lounge around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Holiday sales rose as American spending remained resilient during the critical shopping season.  Retired Ripon College economist Paul Schoofs says the increased sales come despite surging prices on everything from food to rent.  Holiday sales rose 7.6 percent, a slower place than the 8.5 percent increase from a year earlier when shoppers began spending the money they had saved during the early part of the pandemic:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Tony Evers announced Thursday that Wisconsin's secretary of veterans affairs, who pushed to increase resources for veterans facing homelessness and addiction, will retire at the start of the new year. Secretary Mary Kolar, who previously served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors and as a captain in the U.S. Navy, was appointed head of the troubled Department of Veterans Affairs by Evers in 2019. 1-2-23 fdl school district rec department moves to new location

The Fond du Lac School District Recreation Department opens this week in a new location.   Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says the Department is moving from the building behind Woodworth Middle School to the Administrative Office building on 9th Street.  Dr. Fleig says the move will help streamline communication across the district administration and departments and to improve customer service.  The move comes after the District recently hired a new recreation department director.   Bill Greymont […]

1-2-22 accidental shooting-fdl

A Fond du Lac man received non life-threatening injuries when he apparently accidentally shot himself in the hand with a 9mm handgun.  The incident happened at a residence Friday night in the 800 block of Security Drive.   The 48 year old victim was treated at St. Agnes Hospital.
