MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Transportation Security Administration is reminding travelers not to carry realistic replicas of weapons after an inert grenade was found inside a carry-on bag at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport.  Officials this week posted a photo on Instagram of the artwork. 5-3-17 markesan fire

One person was treated for smoke inhalation following a fire in Markesan that severely damaged a bar.  Early Tuesday morning firefighters were called to Stubby’s Bar.  The bar sustained severe structural damage.   A building to the south suffered fire and water damage and two apartments were evacuated.  Two other buildings suffered smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

4-27-17 city of fdl puts brakes on mandatory lead water pipe replacement program

The city of Fond du Lac is putting the brakes on a mandatory lead pipe replacement program after the low-bid contractor for the project backed out after failing to secure a bond.  Public Works director Jordan Skiff says the replacement program will still take place this year, but on a voluntary, not mandatory basis.  Skiff says it makes sense to continue on a voluntary basis because of the cost and […]

4-21-17 fdl county nursing home-overdrawn budget

The administrator of a Fond du Lac County nursing home says an overdrawn budget is due to a loss of revenue, not increased expenses.  The county board this week approved a resolution appropriating nearly $677,000 from the general fund to close out overdrawn 2016 budgets.  The majority of that total, $462,000, is at the Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center, where administrator Mark Redmer says residents were being shuffled due […]

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is promising to find a solution to a trade dispute with Canada that has left dairy farmers in Wisconsin and New York without a market for their product. Two incumbents have been re-elected to the Waupun School Board.  Jennie Patrykus was the top vote getter with 926 votes.  Dylan Weber was re-elected to another three year term with 752 votes. The Fond du lac County Clerk is projecting a slightly higher turnout locally, compared to statewide.  Clerk Lisa Freiberg is predicting a 26 percent voter turnout in Fond du Lac County Tuesday.  Statewide turnout is projected at 18 percent.   Freiberg says there are more than two dozen contested races on the ballot.  Freiberg says she senses that many residents are suffering from voter fatigue.  "We've had six elections in […]

3-25-17 fdl police say man with gun outside jewelry store was a misunderstanding

The case of a man with a gun outside a Fond du Lac jewelry store turned out to be a misunderstanding.    Police were called after a man was spotted outside Kay Jewelry store Thursday afternoon.  It turns out the man had just purchased a muzzleloading gun and was placing it in a vehicle.   Store employees feared he was staking out the store for a robbery and called police.
